At-Home Seminary — For Today’s Disciples of Christ! Study Guide For Individual, Small, or Large Group Studies
This study guide includes one memory verse and several study questions in each of the eleven chapters. The guide is flexible, and works well in various settings. It has been designed for individual, small, or large group studies. When used in large groups, it is recommended that after the facilitator presents a lesson, the large group then break into smaller groups before discussing the questions.
The chapters can be studied in any order. The guide is divided into the same eleven chapters as the book. Groups should decide how much material they want to cover in advance of the time that they plan to meet. Every group has varying needs and time limitations. A set amount of reading can be comfortable for some people, and difficult for others. Therefore, it is suggested that during a group’s first time together, they discuss how much advance reading they want to commit to between meetings.
The study guide questions seek to draw out the information in the book and its application to the reader. The questions themselves are divided into “Discussion Questions,” and “Digging Deeper” questions. Each question is designed to further a reader’s engagement with the material in the book and to enhance one’s thinking about the subject matter. Each chapter hopes to get each reader to seriously contemplate how the lesson impacts their heart and mind, their interactions with others, and their ministry.
After reading each memory verse at home, it is recommended that everyone then write down the verse, and note how it can be applied in their own life. Readers are also encouraged to write down any additional thoughts raised by the verse. Space is provided in this study guide for personal note-taking. Readers may also want to write the memory verses on note cards, which they can review, and meditate upon often. This step enhances the memorization process for many of us.
